Introduction

  • Embryological anomaly.
  • Cause: cystic dilation of portion of ureter running intramurally within bladder wall.
  • Signs: leads to narrow ureteric opening/urine pressure builds up/bulging of bladder mucosa.
  • Associated with ectopic ureter Ureter: ectopic.
  • Can cause dysuria.
  • Diagnosis: radiography, ultrasonography.
  • Treatment:surgical drainage.
  • Prognosis:guarded if symptomatic.

Presenting signs

  • May be asymptomatic incidental finding on radiography.
  • Urinary incontinence.
  • Recurrent urinary tract infections.
  • May be straining to urinate if dilation occurs.

Age predisposition

  • Young animals (congenital abnormality).

Special risks

  • If untreated can result in hydronephrosis and renal failure.

Pathogenesis
