Lens: luxation due to uveitis

Introduction

  • Uveitis causing lens luxation is rare in dogs.
  • Cause: usually uveitis → glaucoma → buphthalmos → subluxation.
  • Zonular breakdown induces uveitis which causes further zonulysis, which results in subluxation/luxation.
  • Treatment:none if secondary to buphthalmos. Lendectomy if some vision remains and uveitis is inactive - care with anesthesia Anesthesia: in ophthalmic surgery. Important to control uveitis before intra-ocular surgery. Lendectomy resolves uveitis

Geographic incidence

  • Can depend on cause of uveitis.

Cost considerations

  • Medications and surgery can be expensive.
