Significance

  • May colonize mucous membranes of healthy individuals; can be present in soil.
  • Opportunistic pathogen; infects immunocompromized sites.
  • Associated with nosocomial infections in dogs and human beings.
  • Associated with urinary tract infections Cystitis , hepatic infections Liver: chronic hepatitis , pyometra Pyometra , and diarrhea in dogs.
  • Opportunistic infections in other species.
