Methodologies

  • Amyloclastic method.
  • Saccharogenic methods not appropriate for use on canine serum.

Availability

  • Widely available.

Validity

Sensitivity

  • Considered sensitive for canine pancreatitis but false negative and false positive results may occur.

Specificity

  • Not as specific for pancreatitis as lipase or TLI Blood biochemistry: lipase.
  • May see increases commonly with renal failure, gastrointestinal disease, and/or hepatobiliary disease.

Technique intrinsic limitations

  • Results most significant in conjunction with other laboratory results and clinical findings.
