Introduction

Uses
- Congenital pyloric stenosis.
- Chronic hypertrophic pyloric gastropathy (CHPG) (some say Bilroth 1 better in these cases).
- Removal of some pyloric polyps (Y-U).
Advantages
- Allows full thickness pyloric biopsy to be taken.
- Allows excision of hypertrophied mucosa.
Disadvantages
- Increased risk of contamination.
- Heineke-Mikulicz may distort pyloric anatomy if significant thickening is present.
- More extensive procedure than pyloromyotomy.
Alternative techniques
- Pyloric resection (Bilroth I).
- Pyloromyotomy Pyloromyotomy.
