Skin: pemphigus vegetans
Synonym(s): Panepidermal pustular pemphigus
Introduction
- Rarest form of pemphigus.
- Ulcerative, erosive and crusting skin disease thought to be benign form of pemphigus vulgaris Skin: pemphigus vulgaris.
- Cause: varied.
- Signs: pustules and skin lesions. No systemic disease.
- Diagnosis: history, clinical signs, histopathology.
- Treatment: chemotherapy.
- Prognosis: uncertain.
Presenting signs
- Vesiculopustular cutaneous disorder, evolving into verrucous vegetations.
- Nikolsky sign may be present.
- Variable pain and pruritus.
- No systemic signs.
Cost considerations
- Diagnostic protocol is lengthy.
