Etymology

  • Moraxella bacteria are named after ophthalmogist V. Morax.

Distribution

  • Occular disease of cattle worldwide.

Significance

  • Moraxella bovis is found on mucous membranes and can survive for 2-3 days in the salivary glands and body surfaces of flies.
  • In 'carrier' cattle the bacteria can be found in the nasopharyngeal region and vagina.
  • Causes Bovine keratoconjunctivitis Bovine keratoconjunctivitis.(pink eye).
