  • Named after Sir David Bruce who discovered this organism.

Distribution

  • Worldwide, although prevalence is low.
  • The disease can be present in wildlife (eg in North America).
  • The host is primarily cattle, but horses, dogs, pigs and people can become infected.

Significance

  • Causes abortions.
  • Brucellosis Brucellosis is a zoonosis causing undulant fever in humans.
