Gareth graduated from Cambridge University in 1996 and spent several years in mixed and small animal practice before concentrating on small animal orthopaedics. He has been a UK RCVS Diplomate and recognised specialist in small animal surgery (orthopaedics) since 2007. He has worked at a number of large referral practices in the UK and Ireland including Universities of Dublin, Liverpool, Cambridge, and the Royal Veterinary College Small Animal Teaching Hospitals, Dick White Referrals, Willows Referral Service, and the Animal Health Trust.
Most of Gareth’s time is spent seeing orthopaedic referral cases at his own practice, Arthurs Orthopaedics. Gareth also holds a part time position as Professor of Small Animal Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, and work as a Consultant for Veterinary Instrumentation.
When not doing clinical work, Gareth divides his time between undergraduate and post-graduate teaching at Nottingham University, delivering orthopaedic CPD nationally and internationally for AOVet, University of Nottingham and other CPD providers, and consultancy work for Veterinary Instrumentation.
Gareth has been chairman of the British Veterinary Orthopaedic Association, an examiner for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and an AOVET European board member and R&D commission member. He also reviews papers for a number of international journals.
Gareth’s surgical interests include cranial cruciate ligament disease, patellar luxation, minimally invasive fracture management, and total hip replacement.
